Hey, I’m Henré, aka “the Plonk“.
Definition: British English slang for an inexpensive bottle of wine. The term is thought to originate from the French word for white wine, “blanc“.
Acronym: a Person of Little Or No Knowledge.
I’m a cheap, off-beat and ill informed wine scribbler and I’ll be using this space to create some strong debate and raise some opinions on the finer details of wine, its people, the cultivars and hot topics that gets our blood boiling with passion.
Sometimes my ideas will be well researched, other times my scribbles will be thumb-sucked to stir emotion and maybe strike a few chords. Who knows, as I get more refined and cultured, my thoughts might carry some substance and you’ll be able to develop new ideas from them. This is the place for oenophiles, other plonks and people interested in the heritage and culture of wine to participate and enjoy the fabulous world of wine and its associated pleasures.
I am also in the very fortunate position of being invited to all these fantastic wine estates to indulge in their unique offerings ranging from food, hikes, art exhibitions, quad biking and what not. So join me on my adventures.
I am the cheap bottle of wine, the viniculturally challenged and the Phylloxera in your vineyard, but with your help I will soon be able to keep a well substantiated argument on everything regarding wine and your job is to make sure that I become the master internet wine connoisseur, deal?
Let’s get started. First topic: The Plonk’s Guide to Becoming a Snob.
